You may borrow up to 15 items at any one time. Most items can be loaned for four weeks initially. If the item is not in demand the library system may automatically renew the loan for another four weeks (it can do this twice at the most). Keep checking your library account to make sure you are aware when the items you have borrowed are due for return. Also check your UHI email account for any renewal or overdue notices.
As well as print books the Library service also provides access to a vast collection of online books, via the UHI Libraries' service, which can be read online and many downloaded. Our Library Search provides information on all of the books held by UHI Shetland libraries, plus all the UHI partner library collections, as well as providing links to all of the online books.
Resources for loan held by other UHI partner libraries may be borrowed, by UHI students and staff, through the UHI inter-site loan scheme.
UHI online resources are only available to UHI students and staff. To login to online Library resources (if prompted) you will need your UHI student/D number and your password.
Also see our information on borrowing resources from the Scalloway Campus LIbrary Collection.
UHI students and staff may reserve/request items via Library Search. Click on the "Place Hold"* button in the item record.
Requests can also be made by completing a "Click & Collect" or "Postal Loan" form or by emailing the book details to library.shetland@uhi.ac.uk from your UHI email account.
Please note reserved items will only be held for a limited number of days before going back into circulation. You will be sent an email when items are ready for collection.
*Also see our information on requesting resources from the Scalloway Campus LIbrary Collection.
Items can be renewed online via "My Account" in Library Search.
You can also renew your loans via the links / tiles in MyDay.
You can also contact us to renew your loans - library.shetland@uhi.ac.uk or telephone (01595) 771258. Note that we can renew them for you as long as they have not been reserved by someone else.
You will receive an automatic email when resources are due to be returned. If you no longer require a resource please return it as soon as possible to make it available for other people to borrow. If you need to use anything beyond the due date, you can usually renew the loan (if it is not reserved). If you would like to renew any loans see the UHI Libraries video on renewing loans or contact UHI Shetland library staff at library.shetland@uhi.ac.uk.
If you are a distance learner see our contact details for our FREEPOST address. Contact library.shetland@uhi.ac.uk, or telephone (01595) 771258, for details.
