UHI Shetland Library

Library Access - Summer 2024

UHI Shetland Library Service - Summer 2024

The UHI Shetland Library service will be operating from the Scalloway Campus Library over the summer break 2024 only (1st July - 9th August).

Study spaces

The Scalloway campus library will be open for study when library staff are available.  Due to staff holidays the opening hours are restricted - see the opening hours below.  As opening hours are dependent on staff availability they may change at short notice.  Please contact library staff to ensure that the library will be open on the day you are planning to visit.

Borrowing items

Students and staff can still borrow items from both campus library collections.  The Scalloway collection is available to "browse and borrow" during the library opening hours.  "Click and Collect" and "Postal Loans" services are available for both collections.

As Library staff access to the Lerwick Library Collection is restricted "click and collect" and "postal loans" requests may take longer than usual to process.  Please consider this when items are being requested for coursework.

Returning loans

Laptops returned between the 1st of July and the 9th of August must be returned to the Scalloway Campus.

Other loans can be returned to the Library Returns box at the entrance to the Lerwick Campus building - see the dates and times the box is accessible.

Loans can be returned to the Scalloway Campus Library, in the John Goodlad Centre building, during the summer opening hours or to the Library Returns box at the entrance to the John Goodlad Centre building during building opening hours (Monday-Friday 09.00-17.00).

Books can also be posted back to the Library using our Freepost address.

Service update for UHI Shetland Library

Updated: 28 June 2024

Be Distance Aware

Be Distance AwareImage shows Distance Aware shield and logos for NHS Scotland and Healthier Scotland

A new initiative has launched in Scotland to encourage people to respect the space of others when they're out and about.

The Distance Aware scheme offers everyone who would feel more comfortable when they have more room, the chance to wear an easily recognisable symbol to show others they need space and care.  the polite prompt is designed to support those who are worried about being in public places, for whatever reason, and help them feel more confident when going about their daily life.

Free lanyards and badges featuring the Distance Aware shield are available from the Shetland Library as well as from either of our UHI Shetland libraries.

We can all play our part as we adapt to living with COVID-19. Find out more at gov.scot/distanceaware.

Search for resources

Library Search

Library Search is the library's search engine.  It provides a 'Google-like' way to find many of UHI Libraries' print and online resources at the same time.  The process of finding information from both the physical and online collections has become so much simpler.

With just one search you can find print books, ebooks, newspaper articles, ejournal articles, conference proceedings and more.  The results are listed in order of relevance to your search and you can filter and focus your search by publication format, date, location, language etc.

To ensure you can see all the titles of the articles in your search please login to Library Search before you start your search.

Click and Collect

  • This service is primarily designed for those unable to collect resources in person and those who cannot reasonably travel to Shetland UHI.
