Welcome to UHI Shetland Library

• Both campus libraries are closed on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th of April. 
  Over the spring break (7th - 18th April 2025) the library may have to close unexpectedly. If you're planning a visit from further away please contact us to ensure that the library is open on the day you  plan to visit.

• Remember to return or renew your library loans 
  Library resources can be returned to staff in the Lerwick campus library, or to one of the Library Return boxes.  There's a Library Return box at the entrance to the Lerwick campus and one in the Library at the Scalloway campus.  Alternatively you can return resources using our freepost address - please see our contact information for details.
  To renew your loans online, login to your Library Account, or email us at library.shetland@uhi.ac.uk.

• Book a Library Support session - If you would like to find out more about using the library's online resources, or need more information about library services, book a library support session (either for on campus or online).  Sessions will help you to make the most of the library resources and services available.  Contact library.shetland@uhi.ac.uk in the first instance.

Library Search

Library Search is the library's search engine.  It provides a 'Google-like' way to find many of UHI Libraries' print and online resources at the same time.  The process of finding information from both the physical and online collections has become so much simpler.

With just one search you can find print books, ebooks, newspaper articles, ejournal articles, conference proceedings and more.  The results are listed in order of relevance to your search and you can filter and focus your search by publication format, date, location, language etc.

Lerwick Campus Library

*Note the Lerwick Campus Library will be temporarily closed on Fridays until additional cover is arranged.

Scalloway Campus Library

The Scalloway Campus Library is open to UHI students and staff Monday - Friday 09.00-17.00.

Joining, and using, the UHI Shetland Library

All UHI students and staff are welcome to use the UHI Shetland Library.  If you are not a UHI Shetland student, or member of staff, please contact us before your first visit, or visit us at the Lerwick Campus Library.  You will need to sign the visitor's book each time you arrive on campus.

Information for non UHI students or staff

Students from other UK universities

Students from other UK universities are welcome to use the UHI Shetland Library under the SCONUL Access scheme.  You must apply to use the scheme by completing the online SCONUL Access application form. Note that applications are sent via your own university library. 

Members of the public

Members of the local community and visitors are welcome to come in and browse the collection at the Lerwick Campus Library.  It is appreciated if you let us know in advance of your first visit and you must sign in each time you visit.

If you would like to borrow books, and/or use the Scalloway Campus Library, you must join as an external member.  External membership is free.  Contact us for more information or ask library staff at the Lerwick Campus Library.
