Induction: introduction to library services

Your library account

Once you are fully registered as a student and have received your UHI username and password, you can start accessing the library service. Your student ID is your library barcode for borrowing books, there is no need to register separately.

Most of the library systems and electronic resources can be accessed using your standard UHI username and password in the format studentID@uhi.ac.uk followed by your password. This will be familiar from accessing other systems such as MyDay and Brightspace.

If you have trouble accessing library services, there is some further guidance in the login issues guide.

Core services

The following services are available at all UHI library/learning resource centres:

  • access to print books for loan and reference which support the courses offered.
  • access to print resources held across UHI through inter-site and postal loan.
  • Wi-Fi access via Eduroam.
  • access to PCs, printing and other ICT facilities.
  • access to online resources including eBooks and eJournals (on and off campus).
  • access to other university libraries via the SCONUL scheme (HE only).
  • support from experienced and friendly library staff.

Most of the partner libraries have a site Libguide which provide an overview of the services available locally.

Opening hours vary due to local demand. They can be found in the Your Local Library libguide along with contact details.

Wi-Fi

All students can access Eduroam Wi-Fi on campus which provides the fastest and most stable connection. Please note that enrolled students should not use the Guest or Visitor Wi-Fi as it is not designed for a large number of connections. Further details about connecting to Wi-Fi can be found on the IT support pages.
