The Western Isles Hospital Library is run by NHS Western Isles and is the main specialist health library for the Western Isles. It serves the NHS community, as well as being a reference resource for patients and carers.
It is also an academic library, supporting the students and staff of the University of the Highlands and Islands with their education, training and research needs. To aid this goal, part of the collection in the library is curated and maintained specifically to support the curriculum of the University's Department of Nursing and Midwifery, which maintains and supports a campus presence in the same section of the Hospital as the library.
