Description of Library and services

ABOUT THE LIBRARY

From August 1st 2017 Highland Health Sciences Library transferred to the University of the Highlands and Islands. It is the only major specialist health library north of Aberdeen, located in the Centre for Health Science which is on the Raigmore Hospital site on the south west side of Inverness.  It serves the academic sector and is also open to all NHS Highland/Highland Council care staff to utilise as an information/evidence/best practice service and is a reference resource for patients and carers.

SERVICES OFFERED

  • Allow the Library to gift you time - Staff can gift you time and act as additional staff members for assisting you in any aspect of your work – clinical or educational.  If you want to learn how to navigate the mysteries of the Knowledge Network the staff are available to show you.  However the staff can gift you time by seeking out the information for you - please contact us on hhsl@uhi.ac.uk for more information.

 

  • Research expertise - The staff are available to assist with your research at many levels – the collection is research focussed and the staff are used to collaborating and working with researchers.  Staff also assist in the publication process by finding the basic information relating to the research and organising it for the research.  Please contact us on hhsl@uhi.ac.uk for more information.

 

 

 

  • Local, national and international collaboration - The library also collaborates with other library services – eg locally wth Highlife Highland, in Scotland - part of the Scottish Health Information Network, the UK - part of the Health Libraries Group and internationally eg our remote in rural colleagues in Canada and Australia.  This collaboration has many benefits and is currently being utilised in the fight against COVID.

 

  • Space - The Library also provides a multipurpose room for discussions, presentations, or study.  It also provides a quiet room – a dedicated quiet space for silent personal study.   Please contact us on hhsl@uhi.ac.uk for more information.

HOW TO FIND US

The Library is located in the Centre for Health Science in the grounds of Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. Raigmore is located in the South-Eastern outskirts of the town.

Visitor Car Parking

Visitors to the Library are advised that there is a parking charge of £1.00 per day (or part of a day). For all those without passes exit tokens are available from the Reception Desk at the front entrance to the Centre for Health Science.
