Module Resource Lists (Students)

A guide to using your online Talis Resource Lists

How to find your list

You can search for your module's resource list (also known as a reading list) using its module codetitle, or relevant keywords.

When you find the correct list, click the ‘+ My Lists’ button located to the right of the list title. This will save it to your personal collection, making it easy to access later via the ‘My Lists’ tab whenever you return to the site.

It's likely that your lecturer will have embedded your reading list in Brightspace or perhaps sections of weekly reading in your module course materials. This can vary slightly depending on the course. If your list has not been embedded in Brightspace, you can also access the Module Resource Lists system from the Brightspace navigation bar under 'Library Resources'.

How to navigate your list

You can move between different sections of your list using the ‘Table of Contents’ dropdown. The structure of each list depends on how your lecturer has organised it so you might see sections such as ‘Core Texts’, or a week-by-week breakdown of required reading. This feature is especially helpful for longer lists. To quickly return to the top of the page, use the ‘Back to top’ button in the bottom-right corner.

You can also filter the list using the resource type filter — for example, to view only books, journal articles, or webpages. Another filter lets you view only online resources, which is particularly useful when you're off campus and want to access materials immediately.

Accessing resources

Whenever you see 'View online' button, this indicates a direct link to an electronic version. This includes ebooks, journal articles, digitised chapters and websites. For subscribed resources, you may be asked to login before viewing.

Print-only books will show a ‘View availability’ button. When you click on a title of a book, the display expands to show location and availability details.

Some eBooks are also available in print; you’ll see ‘View online’ button but clicking on the title will show the print copies availability accross UHI libraries. Click on the text showing copies available in your library which will take you to UHI Library Search, where you can place a hold on a print copy to collect from your local library — or, if you don’t have convenient access to campus, request to have it posted to your address.

Reporting broken links

Sometimes you might come across a link that doesn’t work — which can be frustrating! We want to ensure that all resources in your list are accessible, and reporting a broken link is quick and easy.

To report a broken link:

  • Click the three dots on the right-hand side of the item.
  • Select ‘Report broken link’ from the dropdown menu.

You can choose to report the issue anonymously if you prefer not to be contacted when the problem is resolved.
