How to get started for anyone new to tracking down resources, and a refresher for those who have already mastered some of the skills.

See the I found the books in Library Search - now what?

  • In this example there is one copy and it is available.

  • In the example below, there are plenty of available copies at Inverness, but one is on loan.

  • You can place a hold online for your local campus copy, and either request a pick up or have it posted out to you.

Alternatively, take a note of the shelfmark (e.g. 741.95 DOW) and go along to the library and find the book on the shelf.  The books are arranged by subject using the Dewey Decimal system (except for the Highland Health Sciences Library which uses the National Library of Medicine system). The books are arranged in numerical order, with books on similar subjects shelved together. The shelves will be labelled to help you locate the right section, and library staff are always happy to guide you.
